Interchange-plus-plus pricing

See every penny you pay.

With interchange-plus-plus (IC++) pricing, each card payment is broken into three parts: the card issuer’s fee, the card scheme’s fee and your acquirer’s margin. You only negotiate the bit that is actually negotiable, and you can see it on every statement.

Most of our clients process £1m to £50m+ a year on card. Smaller business? We help you too.

IC++ usually suits businesses that...

  • Process enough volume for the margin to be worth negotiating
  • Take a mix of debit, credit, business and overseas cards
  • Are on a blended rate and suspect they are overpaying
  • Want statements their finance team can check line by line

How we help.

Explain the three parts

Interchange goes to the card issuer, scheme fees go to Visa and Mastercard, and the margin goes to your acquirer. We show you which is which on your own statements.

Negotiate the margin

Interchange and scheme fees are set by others. The acquirer margin is where the deal is made, so that is where we focus.

Model it first

We model what your last few months would have cost on IC++ against your current pricing, before you change anything.

Check it after

Once you switch, we check your statements so the margin you agreed is the margin you pay.

How it works.

01

Tell us where you are.

What you sell, how you take payments and what needs fixing. A recent statement helps.

02

We go to market for you.

We take your business to the acquirers that fit and negotiate. You see every line.

03

Move when you're ready.

If it's a good fit, we handle the set-up with you. If not, no hard feelings.

Questions.

What is IC++ in plain English?

It is a pricing model that shows the real cost of each card payment in three parts: interchange to the card issuer, scheme fees to the card network, and the acquirer’s margin on top.

Is IC++ always cheaper than a blended rate?

Not always. For many larger merchants it is, because they stop paying for the cost of the most expensive cards on every payment. For some smaller businesses, a simple blended rate can work out better. We model both.

Are UK interchange fees capped?

For UK consumer cards used at UK merchants, interchange is capped at 0.2% for debit and 0.3% for credit. Business cards and many overseas cards are not covered by the same caps, which is why your card mix matters.

Will our statements be harder to read?

They will be more detailed. We walk your finance team through the first few so they know exactly what to check.
